For me, routines are essential. It’s something that I can count on and it helps me set my day up for success. I believe that if you create a routine you can stick with, it’ll help you look forward to a new day and achieve all of your goals.
I have 6 pillars to build the foundation for a perfect morning. It includes excercising your body, your mind, and fueling it! It might be a little challenging to get started, but if you stick with it, you’ll learn to love it too!
So let’s get into how to build your ideal moring routine!
1. Wake up early.
I personally try to wake up at 6:00-6:15 every morning. Trust me, this is essential to making the most out of your day. And believe me, if I can wakeup early, then you can too! I absolutely love sleep; I used to be the girl that could and would sleep anywhere at any time. I would sleep in until noon on weekends, and I would hit the snooze button as many times as I could. (To be honest, I still hit the snooze button sometimes).
But, I finally realized that it was only hurting myself. I have many goals for myself, and I used to ask myself why I couldn’t do everything I wanted to do in a day. Well, it was because of how much time I spent on sleep! I would sleep all the time, but I would still be exhausted. After a bit of research, I landed on the power of sleep times and length. Now, I still get 7-8 hours of sleep, accomplish everything I want to in a day, don’t take naps anymore, and still feel rested.
So find what works for you! If you hit the snooze button, put your alarm across the room. If you sleep through alarms, invest in a sunrise alarm that slowly wakes you up with light. You have to start somewhere. Try to ease into waking up earlier by waking up 5 minutes earlier every day. It doesn’t have to be a big change! Just remember, stick to it! If you wake up early consistently, your body will eventually get used to the change.
A lot of it has to also do with your night routine and when you go to bed. I’ll be writing a post going in detail about my night routine, so follow to keep updated!
And if you want to read more about how to wake up earlier, I’ll be writing a post on that soon as well, so stay tuned!
2. Hydration.
Your body loses water when you sleep, so it’s super important to rehydrate first thing in the morning. I drink a whole glass of water (and usually more)! I make sure to have a glass waiting for me on my bedside table before I go to bed so that I don’t need to put more effort than I have to. Such a small improvement really helps! It makes me feel more awake and ready to conquer the day.
3. Feeding the mind: Journaling and Meditation
I cannot express how important this is. I just recently started implementing journaling and meditating into my routine, and I can’t go back! It’s amazing. It helps me stay grounded and visualize what I want to do for the day. Sometimes, it’s just important to express gratitude and be present. I have a journaling prompt post up, so go check that out!
4. Feeding your body: Excercise and Stretching
I find that finding a way to move your body in the morning is a great way to set your day up for the best. It doesn’t need to be a hardcore workout; go out for a nice long walk or do some yoga! Just moving your body will help wake you up. Whenever I workout in the morning, I tend to have more energy throughout the day!
Stretching is also important. It’s also really relaxing. I like to just listen to music and think about the day and everything I want to achieve.
5. Shower.
I usually shower in the morning (and sometimes at night) because I workout in the morning. It’s my way of getting ready for the day because it forces me to change out of my clothes and put on some makeup. Is it just me or does getting ready in the morning actually make you more productive? I think it definitely does 🙂
6. Breakfast.
You know what they say: breakfast is the most important meal of the day! So try not to skip it. I don’t always feel like eating a big breakfast, but I try to eat a granola bar, fruit, or yogurt. I love coffee, so I include that too. But remember, coffee is not breakfast, so try eating something nutrious.
And that’s everything! I usually finish everything by 8:30, so I have my whole morning ahead of me. And it feels so great to accomplish so much first thing in the morning! That way you can go to work/school and have time to socialize, have some hobbies, and relax!
